Audience Segmentation

Audience Segmentation is dividing your potential customers into groups based on characteristics like age, location, interests, past behavior, or purchase stage. Instead of showing the same ad to everyone, you customize the message for each segment.

Why it matters for your business

Not all leads are equal. A 25-year-old looking for a cheap service has different needs than a 50-year-old looking for premium quality. By segmenting audiences, you can write ad copy and offers that resonate with each group, lowering your CPL and raising your conversion rate.

In practice

A dentist segments their audience: (1) First-time patients — emphasize 'New Patient Special' and comfort, (2) Existing patients — focus on cleanings and checkups, (3) High-income professionals — highlight cosmetic dentistry and advanced treatments. Different ads, different messaging, higher conversions.

Common questions

How do I create segments?

In Google Ads: use audience lists (age, gender, income, interests). In Facebook Ads: use detailed targeting and custom audiences. The best segments combine multiple data points (location + age + interests).

Can I use personal data to segment?

Google and Facebook don't allow targeting on sensitive categories (health conditions, political views, etc.) with some exceptions. Focus on interests, behavior, and demographics you can verify.
