Retargeting (Remarketing)
Retargeting is showing ads to people who have already visited your website or engaged with your business (like viewed a page but didn't call). The goal is to remind them of your service and bring them back to convert.
Why it matters for your business
Most people don't convert on their first visit. Retargeting lets you stay in front of them with targeted ads across the web or their social feeds. It's usually much cheaper to retarget someone who's already interested than to acquire a completely new lead.
In practice
Someone visits a plumber's website, reads about their services, but leaves without calling. A week later, they see ads from that plumber on Facebook and Google. The ads remind them, they click, and they finally call and book service.
Common questions
How do I set up retargeting?
Install the Google Remarketing Tag or Facebook Pixel on your website. It tracks who visits. Then, create ads targeted only to people who've visited. They start seeing your ads within hours.
Is retargeting creepy?
It can feel that way, but it's transparent: Google and Facebook disclose that retargeting is happening. Most businesses find it effective and customers find it helpful (a reminder of a service they were interested in).
